Do you have a large project coming up? Are you unsure if hiring a dumpster rental service is the best idea for your project? If so, then you’ve come to the right place.

Hiring a dumpster rental service is not something that most of us do often, and the majority of people might only need one or two in a lifetime. So how is one to ever know if renting a dumpster is a good idea for the specific project they have? Below I review the most common reasons people rent dumpsters, it’s not a total list though, and if you have other ideas for dumpster rentals, let us know below!

1. Garage clean out

One of the most common reasons people hire a dumpster rental service is to clean out their garages. Garages often turn into a catch-all of our busy lives. Next thing you know, you’re limited to how many cars can fit in the garage. Garages get full of half-completed projects, old sports equipment, miscellaneous stuff emptied from cars, etc. Cluttered garages can quickly feel cumbersome and quite overwhelming. Thankfully, when you hire a dumpster rental service, they usually place the dumpster right in your driveway. This means short trips from the garage to the dumper for easy and fast removal.

2. Getting rid of leftover stuff from an estate sale or garage sale

So you have a big sale, but what to do with the rest of the stuff that didn’t vacate the premises? Easy enough, schedule a dumpster arrival at the end of your sale. Instead of having the stuff go back into your house, a dumpster can be easily loaded with the stuff you have already grouped.

3. You need a new roof

Shingles are both messy and heavy. When being removed, shingles can drop both small particles of the shingles as well as nails. These are both hard to find and hard to pick up after they are dropped. When we did our roof, we laid several blue tarps like this under where we were working to help keep the mess contained. Then, we emptied the tarps into the dumpster. This helped us to not have nails and shingle debris hidden in our grass or between our pavers.

4. In need of a whole house declutter

Sometimes we all need a clean refresh. You might not have one room that needs a total overhaul, but most of us have edits to make in every room in our house. It might not seem like a lot, but it can add up quickly.

When we got our dumpster for our house decluttering, it was our goal to have it for the fewest days possible. This should be your plan too, as dumpster rental companies charge more per additional day. We spent the week before the dumpster came going through each room in our house. We removed the stuff we no longer needed and made one large pile in our garage. This process makes loading the stuff in the dumpster a lot faster and can save you a lot of money.

5. House remodel

Is it time for new cabinets? A new shower, tub, or vanity? A quick easy way to remove these larger items is to rent a dumpster and have it all hauled away at once. There is no need to separate waste or rent a truck that could need several trips. Take the large items along with flooring and other construction debris right to the dumpster. Also, many dumpsters have doors on the back of them. This makes it easy to walk big items right into them, no need to lift anything over the side walls.

6. Basement/attic clean out

Attics and basements are often overwhelmed collection spots. These rooms often get so full, they completely lose their usability. When we reorganized our storage room, we started by sorting through everything. We made piles of things we wanted to get rid of and things we wanted to keep. When we reorganized our storage room, we used these bins from Home Depot and still love them. They have secure tops, come in many different sizes, and stack very nicely. The 27-gallon bins work great for a standard size.

7. Community clean up

A great way to help your community through service is to organize a neighborhood cleanup. Everyone pitching in to make their neighborhood or someone else’s a little cleaner is a beautiful thing. A dumpster can be placed in a central location and volunteers can bring bags of collected litter to the dumpster.

8. Moving

Moving is an expensive process; inevitably, the more physical belongings you move, the more it costs. Editing your belongings for stuff you are no longer needing before the move, will save time, energy, and money.

On the other hand, did you just move and not go through your belongings beforehand? You might be left with stuff you are now realizing you don’t need, stuff that does not fit with your new space, or you might be buried in packing supplies and boxes.

Renting a dumpster for either of these situations will be the quick and easy way to ensure your new home is not overwhelmed with clutter and things you don’t need.

9. Getting rid of an old deck

Rotten planks, wobbly handrails, and old rusty nails are perfect for dumpsters. Removing an old deck is similar to removing an old roof. Nails and debris can quickly get embedded into your grass and make for a messy and dangerous situation later.

Also, most people also don’t have a physical way to transport long boards to the dump themselves, making this the perfect job for a dumpster rental service.

10. You have more garbage that can fit in your car to take to the dump yourself

It might be stating the obvious, but not everyone owns a truck and most people do not want to load their car trunks with messy waste. Renting a dumpster is also the best answer when you simply don’t have the means to transport garbage to the dump on your own.
